Importance of COVID-19 Antigen Test Kit

During a pandemic, quick SARS-CoV-2 detection permits effective COVID-19 therapy and prevention. It is essential to assess the precision and dependability of rapid diagnostic testing kits to detect and diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infections in the general population, injection drug users, healthcare workers, and other high-risk people.

A lateral flow immunoassay is used in the novel Covid-19 antigen test kit to qualitatively identify SARS-COV-2 antigen (nucleocapsid protein) in upper respiratory samples from nasal swabs or saliva during the acute phase of infection.

How Does Covid-19 Antigen Test Kit Work?

The covid-19 test kit is a lateral flow assay that identifies nucleocapsid (N) protein in samples of the upper respiratory tract in a qualitative manner (nasal swabs). The sandwich immunoassay format was used to create this lateral flow test. An antibody-antigen complex is made when the specimen is placed onto the sample pad of a test cassette, and the coronavirus N protein binds with a colloidal gold-labeled SARS-CoV-2 N protein antibody.

When the antibody-antigen combination migrates to the test line due to capillary action, the SARS-CoV-2 N protein antibody catches it. The test line will show a red band if the specimen is positive for the COVID-19 nucleocapsid protein. If the material does not include any coronavirus antigen, or if the antigen level is below the detection limit, no color band will emerge on the test line.

How To Use a Covid-19 Test Kit?

Follow the following step-by-step procedure to get accurate testing results:

  • Empty the buffer content into the extraction tube.
  • After using a nasal swab to capture an upper respiratory sample, insert it into the extraction tube and dip it up and down in the liquid for at least 10 seconds. Rotate the swab three times and avoid spitting liquid out of the tube.
  • Squeeze the sides of the tube to release the liquid from the swab.
  • By swishing or flicking the tube's bottom, press the nozzle cover.
  • Two (2) drops of the buffer-specimen mixture should be placed into the sample well on the covid-19 antigen test kit cassette by gently squeezing the rigid body of the tube.
Spend between 15 and 20 minutes reading the test results.

Interpret Test Result

You can interpret the result of the Covid-19 antigen test kit result as follows:

  • Negative: A colored band is visible on the control line (C line) but not on the test line (T line). A negative result means no coronavirus antigen is present in the samples.
  • Positive: The control line (C line) displays a colored band, while the test line displays a second colored band (T line) which shows that the patient sample contained COVID-19 antigen.
  • Invalid: The control line displays no colored band (C line). An invalid test result could be the result of improper operating techniques or a lack of buffer volume. Repeat the test on the same patient with a different covid-19 antigen test kit cassette after carefully reviewing the test protocol.
